History

This region was acquired by USA, as a part of louision purchase in 1803. In 1804 to 1806 this region was explored by the Lewis and Clarke. In 1817 finally South Dakota wa established.

Geography

South Dakota has a geological history. The state rises from east to west 6,000 feet to Harney peaks. The Missouri river cuts the wide valley through center of the state. There are many hills and rivers across the state.

Economy

Cattle and sheep ranching is a major part of economy. Soybean and wheat forming is the second highest production of revenue. Food processing and electronics is the leading industry.

Government

The state is governed under their constitution of 1889. The legislature assembly contains 35 senators and 70 representatives. The governor is the head of the state elected for four years.

A synthetic gas producing company known as Dakota Gasification Company is the only synthetic gas company in the nation. South Dakota is the second largest producer of flaxseed and sunflower.
