The first people who entered the area of Nevada were mainly Trappers and traders, including Jeddah Smith and Peter Skene Ogden, In 1843–1845. U.S.A obtained this region in 1848 following the Mexican War. There were many temporary settlements but the first permanent settlement was a Mormon trading post near present-day Genoa. In 1859 Nevada became world famous because of the discovery of the silver deposits in this area called Com-stock Lode. These mines have to date, produced large quantities of gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, mercury, barite, and tungsten. Oil was discovered in Nevada in 1954. It is the Spanish word from where the word Nevada was derived. This means snow clad.
