India is a south Asian country, which is also member of United Nations, has the official name of republic of India. It is the second most populated country of the world with over 1.2 billion people and still its population is getting worse day by day. This why situation of hunger and poverty is also very poor in India but still it has managed to get a lot monetary gain from all over the world and its economy is ready to take off. It is the world’s 10th largest economy.
1. Origin
The word India is derived from the word Indus which is itself a derivation from Old Persian word Hindu. Now days, a person residing in India or practicing Hinduism is called Hindu.
2. Geography
India is the seventh largest country by geographical area. It shares its boundaries with Pakistan, bay of Bhutan, Nepal, people republic of china and Sri Lanka. It also touches its boundaries to Arabian and Indian Ocean.
3. History
History of modern India has started since 1947 but history of sub continent is very old, vast and rich. The most famous Indus valley civilization flourished in the area which now comprises on India and Pakistan. This region still has the marks of the great Muslim emperors who ruled sub continent.
4. Independence Day and Indian flag
Modern India celebrates its independence day on 15th of august in the memories of separation from English people. Its flag has three colors i.e. orange, green and white with a circle named “chakra” on it.
5. Religion
Today’s India is said to be a secular state but still people here are very close to their religions. Two main religions are in practice here named Islam and Hinduism. History tells that this region also originated other main religions like Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism.
6. Culture
India has versatility in culture even within the same state. Indian classical dances named Kathak and Bharatanyam are famous all over the world. These dances are also part of Hinduism. People are simple here. Women usually wear sarhi and men wear kurata pajama or pant shirt.
7. Food
Indian food is also very famous both in Europe and Asia, specially for their spices. Indian presentation of food is known as “Thali” in which a large dish carries different small dishes of food.
8. Bollywood
Indian film industry is known as “Bollywood”. It is the biggest industry of India, and as it has followers not only from India but also from neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan also, it generates revenue in trillions for India every year.
9. Historical places
India is rich in the matter of historical places. As Muslim emperors especially Mughal emperors chose Lahore or Delhi as their capital of state so along with Lahore, Delhi and other parts of India also has the famous historical places like Taj Mahal is situated in Agra. 10. Relations with neighboring countries
India has friendly relations with all of its neighboring countries except Pakistan because before 1947 Pakistan and India were combined country but after the separation of both countries the scenario changed and till now both countries have been involved in three wars.
