Tornado is the twister that is huge and very destructive. Tornados are made due to the strange paths the air takes. Normally tornados are found to be made in the open field and open areas where air is not restricted. They also are made in the seas and oceans. Tornados are the natural disaster that often leaves the lands they pass, destroyed and they also claim lives. Let us know some more facts about them.
1. Rotating storm
Tornado appears as the rotating storm. It is funnel shaped i.e. from the center it is not stormy but from outside it is very stormy and the whirling air speeds as much as 300 miles per hour.
2. Damage path
Tornados do great damages. Their path can be 1 mile in width and 50 miles in length. This means, they can do damage up to moving forward the 50 miles from their point of start.
3. Predictor of the tornado
Mesocyclone is the predictor of the tornado. It means that when a cyclone is seen with hail, sever wind, lightening the next thing could be the tornado.
4. Movement
Most tornados move from southwest to northeast. They also move back in short intervals of time and they can even take the back track If further struck by the thunder storm and winds.
5. Time they last
The tornado, despite of their big area do not last for more than seven to ten minutes. Some even last for few seconds. But back in 1900, there were reported some tornados that lasted for an hour.
6. Transparent
It is very interesting that the tornados when formed are transparent. It is only after the dust and debris that they are visible to others.
7. Tropical storms
The tornados become real dangerous on the lands when they join the tropical storms and hurricanes. With rain water and hail, they become giant and destructive.
8. Time of occurrence
What has been seen from the records of tornados in the past is that most of them occurred in a time frame? This time frame was 3 pm to 9 pm. But this is not the hard and fast rule for the tornados to occur only between these times.
9. Time in months
The peak time for tornados to occur in the southern states is the months of March to may. In the northern states, this time is all of summer months.
10. The ideal region
The ideal region for the tornados to occur is the dry Canadian air meeting with the moist wet air of the gulf of Mexico.
