1. Location
Chichen Itza is present in Tinum municipality that is the part of Yucataan, a Mexican state. It is located in the southeast of Merida at a distance of about 25 kilometers.
2. History
Archeologists have estimated that Chichen Itza was built in the era of 750-900 AD. At the end of 900 AD, this site was completely developed. Up to 10th century, this city became the regional capital of entire area of Yucataan.
3. Decline
According to archeologists, this great city of Chichen Itza was start declining in 1000 AD. This was the time almost two centuries before the development of Mayapan.
4. The Caracol Celestial Observatory
The Caracol Celestial Observatory that is also known as El Caracol is a famous visiting place in ruins of Chichen Itza. It comprises 48 feet high round tower, staircase in the form of snail’s shell and a rectangular as well as circular platform.
5. The Ball Court
Another famous place of Chichen Itza is called “The Ball Court”. The specialty of Ball Court is its discontinuous wall without any wall vault and with 20 stone rings around the walls.
